Sarum Vision Completes Challenging Charity Bike Ride in Support of Local Cause.

Sarum Vision has successfully completed its annual Charity Bike Ride continuing its mission to give back to the local community through endurance, teamwork and determination.

Since its formation in 2021, Sarum Vision has brought together a passionate group of cyclists committed to supporting meaningful causes across Salisbury. Each year the team selects a charity close to their hearts raising awareness and funds for vital community services. This year the team raised £1170 which was match funded by Sarum Vision totalling £2340.

The group took on a new and demanding circular route from Salisbury to the Isle of Wight covering approximately 160 miles over two days. In addition to the usual steep climbs, this year presented the fresh challenge of extremely wet weather testing both the physical and mental resilience of the team.

The chosen charity this year was Encircles, a Salisbury-based organisation dedicated to alleviating homelessness and poverty, through initiatives such as providing meals, emergency accommodation and long-term housing support.  Encircles plays a crucial role in supporting vulnerable individuals in the community.

Reflecting on this year’s ride, Mr Naeem Haq, event organiser and ophthalmologist at Sarum Vision said: “It was a different route this year, and a different time of year. It proved to be much more challenging, with lots of hills and wet weather.” Fellow ophthalmologist at Sarum Vision, Matt Wakefield added: “We planned this ride months in advance, but we cannot plan what happens on the day. Though physically demanding we powered through. We are truly grateful for all the support we have received.”

Michelle, an Encircles’ trustee said: “We are run entirely by volunteers and are 100% reliant on public donations. This money from Sarum Vision will go directly towards dealing with hunger poverty locally and will make a real difference to people’s lives.”
